WHO THE RESIDENCY IS FOR

 

The open call is addressed to conductors seeking to develop their work across contemporary, experimental, orchestral, chamber, vocal, operatic, music-theatrical, electroacoustic, interdisciplinary, site-responsive, multimedia, or hybrid performance contexts.

 

The residency is especially relevant to conductors who wish to investigate the relation between artistic interpretation and the wider processes through which musical projects are initiated, organized, rehearsed, produced, and publicly communicated.

 

Participants may be developing:

 

– A new conducting project or artistic program

– An interpretation of one or more existing works

– A program involving newly composed repertoire

– A curatorial or dramaturgical proposition

– A project involving electronics, multimedia, spatialization, or interdisciplinary collaboration

– An alternative ensemble or rehearsal model

– A site-responsive or context-specific performance

– A research-based conducting practice

– A new relation among conducting, production, mediation, and audience engagement

 

Projects may enter the residency at different stages of development. Participants may bring an initial concept, selected repertoire, a partially articulated program, a score-based research question, an emerging interpretative proposition, a rehearsal methodology, a production framework, or an existing project requiring substantial further development.

 

The program is designed for conductors prepared to engage across all three stages and to treat presentation, analysis, dialogue, rehearsal planning, and critical reflection as integral components of artistic work.

 

Participants should be prepared to:

 

– Present and contextualize their conducting practices and portfolios

– Articulate the artistic, interpretative, and institutional premises of their projects

– Share scores, recordings, programs, analyses, rehearsal plans, or relevant production materials

– Engage critically and constructively with the projects of other participants

– Offer and receive precise artistic, analytical, and methodological feedback

– Discuss interpretative, technical, relational, curatorial, institutional, and logistical questions

– Participate in score reading, comparative listening, analysis, rehearsal planning, experimentation, and reflection

– Examine their own models of authority, communication, and responsibility

– Remain responsive to the transformation of projects through dialogue and practical testing

– Contribute to a shared working environment based on attentiveness, reciprocity, accountability, and professional responsibility

 

The residency is intended for conductors who understand their practice not merely as the execution of an already established interpretation, but as an expanded mode of inquiry capable of shaping artistic concepts, ensemble relations, production conditions, and public encounters.
